ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College guard Kyle Moore has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the sixth time in his career he has earned this honor.
Moore, a 6-3, 185-pound senior from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 21 points per contest last week as the Pioneers went 2-1 during its recent three-game home-stand.
Moore’s best performance game last Wednesday when he poured in a season-high 41 points in Tusculum’s 72-50 win over Lees-McRae College. Moore shot 14-of-20 from the field, including a 9-of-15 from three point territory. He also went 4-for-5 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds against the Bobcats. Moore’s 41 points are one point shy of a personal best and the sixth most in SAC history and tied for the seventh most by a Pioneer.
He preceded that with a 12-point effort in a 61-44 win over St. Catharine College. Moore was limited to only a pair of field goals in the contest, but he shot 8-of-10 from the charity stripe, while contributing four rebounds and three assists in the victory.
Tusculum’s only loss of the week came against 2009 NCAA Division II national semifinalist and fourth-ranked Augusta State University. In the 79-68 setback to the Jaguars (7-0), Moore posted 11 points and shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line.
On the week, the 2009 SAC Player of the Year shot 48.6 percent (18-37) from the perimeter, while averaging four rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 19-of-22 from the charity stripe (86.4%). Moore has scored 1,341 points in his three seasons at Tusculum, which are ninth in school history. He has also recorded 225 career three-point field goals in a Pioneer uniform, which are second in both TC and conference history.
The Pioneers (5-5) return to action Dec. 21 as TC travels to Louisville, Ky. to face Bellarmine University for a 7 p.m. contest at Knights Hall. Bellarmine advanced to the NCAA II Sweet 16 last season.
