Former Pioneer Ryan Troutman Selected by the Erie BayHawks in the NBA D-League Draft

ATLANTA --- Former Tusculum College point guard Ryan Troutman has been selected by the Erie BayHawks in the seventh round of the 2009 NBA Development League Draft on Thursday.  The BayHawks, located in Erie, Pa., is the NBA D-League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Toronto Raptors.

Troutman, who starred on the Tusculum hardwood from 2007-09, led the South Atlantic Conference in assists in each of his two seasons with the Pioneers.  The 6-2, 175-pound native of Mt. Washington, Ky., dished out 6.19 assists per game, which was the 11th best average in the nation (NCAA Division II).  He finished his 59-game career at Tusculum with the best assists per game average in SAC history, distributing 5.73 helpers per contest.

During his senior campaign, he averaged 11.8 points (14th in SAC) and 5.5 rebounds per game (13th in SAC), while leading the league in minutes played (36.39 mpg).  He started in all 31 contests in the Pioneers’ 20-11 campaign as Tusculum earned an at-large berth to the NCAA II Tournament.  It was Tusculum’s first 20-win performance as a NCAA II member and first campaign with at least 20 victories in 16 years.  For his efforts, he was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team.

Troutman shot 87.9 percent from the free throw line last year, which was the second-best percentage in school history and sixth in conference history.

He came to Tusculum from St. Catharine College in Springfield, Ky., where he averaged 14 points, four assists and four rebounds per game, while earning a spot on the All-Western Conference TJCCAA Team.  Troutman played his prep career at Bullitt East High School where he garnered All-State Honorable Mention accolades and was named the 2005 Bullitt County Player of the Year.

Troutman has three younger brothers, including Rob, who is a junior forward on the Tusculum men’s basketball team.

Troutman is slated to make his professional debut Nov. 22 when the BayHawks travel to Fort Wayne to tip-off the 2009-10 NBA D-League season.
