Box ScoreMILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. --- Senior forward Ashley Bradford (London, Ky.) scored her first goal of the season early in the first half, and Rachael Jennings (Asheville, N.C.) made a season-high seven saves to lead the Tusculum College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win over Southern New Hampshire University in the opening match of the Little Feet Invitational on Friday afternoon. With the win, Tusculum improves to 3-2 on the season while Southern New Hampshire falls to 2-3-1.
Tusculum outshot the Penman 17-13 in the match, including an 8-4 margin in the first half. Pioneer freshman Tramicka James (Wilson, N.C.) recorded her first collegiate assist in the match, setting up Bradford’s first career match-winner early in the opening half. Jennings was solid between the posts for Tusculum in the match, stopping seven attempts on goal to record her second shutout of the season. Southern New Hampshire’s Stef Young also notched seven saves for the Penman in the match.
Bradford notched the match’s lone goal in the opening seconds of the 13th minute, neatly avoiding the diving keeper and slotting it into the back of the net off to give TC an early 1-0 lead. The senior’s tally would prove to be the match-winner as the Pioneer defense stopped several Penman chances down the stretch to notch its second clean sheet of the season.
Tusculum returns to the pitch on Sunday when the Pioneers square off against Lynn University at the Little Feet Invitational. The match is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.
