BETHEL STUNS NO. 8 TUSCULUM 3-0 IN WOMEN'S SOCCERAugust 26, 2007GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Marika Fukuta recorded a goal and an assist as Bethel College upset No. 8 Tusculum College 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field in the final day of the TC Women’s Soccer Classic.
The loss ended an 11-match, regular-season home unbeaten streak for the Pioneers and marked the first time since Sep. 28, 2005 when TC dropped a 3-2 decision to Carson-Newman.
Bethel keeper Ugo Opara recorded her second consecutive shutout to open the season, recording seven saves in the victory.
Florence Iweta put the Wildcats (2-0) on the scoreboard first when she tallied her second goal in as many days, blasting a shot from 10 yards out in the 35th minute. Six minutes later, Fukuta found the back of the net on an eight yard shot to the far post for a 2-0 advantage.
Leah O’Grady added her first goal of 2007 at the 63:54 mark as she headed in a pass from Fukuta.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday when they travel to Columbus State University to take on the 21st-ranked Cougars.
